A Research Discovery That Changed Direction
Nigel Miller has spent nearly four decades as a producer and director in immersive media through SILVER WOLF Productions. He understands how stories move people — not just intellectually, but emotionally and viscerally.
Then he encountered the research of Professor Marshall Duke and Dr Robyn Fivush at Emory University, discovered through a webinar by parenting educator Justin Coulson. The "Do You Know?" scale — showing that children who know their family narrative demonstrate measurably higher resilience, self-esteem, and emotional well-being — crystallised something Nigel had always sensed from his work in documentary storytelling: stories don't just entertain, they shape who we become.
The critical insight was that the collaborative act of storytelling — not merely knowing facts — is the active ingredient. Families sitting together, sharing and re-sharing their stories, build what Duke calls the "intergenerational self." That insight became the foundation of MyStories FOREVER Vault.
Storytelling as a Craft
To bridge the gap between academic research and practical family storytelling, Nigel trained with Muse Storytelling under Patrick Moreau, learning the Four Pillars of Story — a structured approach to uncovering and shaping stories that resonates deeply with audiences.
This training, combined with decades of production experience, informs every aspect of MyStories FOREVER Vault — from the guided StoryBuilder prompts that help families uncover forgotten memories, to the way the platform structures stories for emotional impact and generational meaning.
