Every photo, video, audio recording, and document in your vault is encrypted the moment it reaches our servers. Data travelling between your device and our platform is protected by the latest transport security protocols. Nobody — not hackers, not us, not anyone — can read your encrypted data without proper authorisation.
AI Training Blocked
Your stories will never train someone else's AI
We actively block every known AI training crawler from accessing our platform. We also include industry-standard headers on every page instructing AI companies not to use our content. But the strongest protection is simpler: your vault content sits behind authentication. AI crawlers cannot log in, so they cannot see your stories, full stop.
Triple-Cloud Backup
A full backup copy on independent clouds, refreshed every day
Your live vault runs on enterprise cloud infrastructure. Every day, a full copy is backed up to two further independent cloud providers — different companies, different infrastructure, different locations — and locked so it can't be altered or deleted. If any one provider failed, your stories are recoverable from the others. It's the same layered approach hospitals and governments use for their most critical data.
You Control Who Sees What
Per-story and per-photo privacy — including "Private (Only Me)"
Every story, photo, and media item has its own privacy setting. Share with the whole vault, just selected people, or keep it completely private. You can even set your vault to default to "Private" so nothing is visible to anyone until you actively choose to share it. Change permissions anytime — it's always your call.
Regional Data Residency
Your data is stored in your own region — Australia, the UK/Europe, or the US
Your data lives in a data centre in your own region: Australian data in Sydney (under the Australian Privacy Act), UK and European data in London, and US data in the United States. We don't move your data to jurisdictions with weaker privacy protections, and our multi-cloud backups add geographic resilience.
End-to-End Encryption
For your most sensitive content — zero-knowledge architecture
Our Family Secrets feature offers optional end-to-end encryption. Your secrets are encrypted on your device before they ever leave it, using a passphrase only you know. We cannot read your encrypted secrets — even if compelled to. The key never touches our servers.

Can AI companies like OpenAI or Google use my family stories to train their models?
No. All vault content requires authentication to access — AI crawlers cannot log in. We also block all known AI training bots at the server level and include "no AI training" directives in our HTTP headers. Even if you share a story publicly via a link, our headers instruct AI systems not to use it. We will never sell, licence, or provide your content to any third party for AI training.
What if I want to record memories but keep them completely private until I've passed?
Set your vault's default privacy to "Private (Only Me)". Every story and photo you add will be invisible to all other vault members. When you're ready — or after your passing via our Legacy Unlock system — your designated key holders can change permissions to make your stories visible to your family. You stay in control, even beyond your lifetime.
Could a data breach expose my family's stories?
We use multiple layers of protection. All data is encrypted at rest and in transit. Access requires both authentication and vault membership — verified on every request by our security rules. Our infrastructure providers maintain SOC 2 and ISO 27001 certifications. For your most sensitive content, our end-to-end encryption means that even in the unlikely event of a server breach, encrypted data remains unreadable without your passphrase.
What happens to my data if your company goes out of business?
Your live vault runs on independent cloud infrastructure — not company-owned servers — with a full backup copied to two further independent providers every day. You can export your complete vault at any time. We're also building towards an independent Permanence Trust that will be legally obligated to maintain or migrate your data, funded by a portion of every subscription. Even without the trust, your data persists independently of any single company.
Do you use AI yourselves? Is that safe?
Yes, we offer optional AI features like transcription and story polishing — but only when you explicitly request them. Your content is processed, not stored or trained on. We use enterprise-grade AI providers with strict data processing agreements that prohibit them from using your content for model training. You can use every feature of the vault without ever enabling AI.
Who can see my content inside the vault?
Only the people you choose. Every piece of content has a privacy setting: "Everyone in Vault", "Only Selected People", "Everyone Except…", or "Private (Only Me)". Vault guardians and owners can manage the vault structure but content privacy is always respected. You can review and change permissions on any content at any time.
What if someone in my family shares something I wanted kept private?
Each storyteller controls their own content. If you mark a story as private, no one else can change that — not even the vault owner or guardians. Your privacy settings are yours. Other family members can create and share their own stories, but they cannot alter the visibility of yours.
Is my content searchable on Google?
No — unless you specifically choose to share a story via a public link. Private and vault-member-only stories are invisible to search engines. They require authentication and vault membership to view. Stories shared via public links are accessible, but even these include headers instructing search engines not to use them for AI training.
