In the early 2000s, Professor Marshall Duke and Dr Robyn Fivush at Emory University asked children a simple set of questions about their family’s history. What they found was striking: the more children knew, the better they fared emotionally.
A few of the questions
- “Do you know where your grandparents grew up?”
- “Do you know how your parents met?”
- “Do you know an illness or something really terrible that happened in your family?”
- “Do you know the story of your birth?”
- “Do you know some of the lessons your parents learned from good or bad experiences?”
